Wearable computers are designed for intensive order picking operations where items are picked at carton and single unit level.
Scanning barcodes is as simple as pressing the trigger attached to the operator's index finger. The data is then transmitted via cable or
Bluetooth to an HX2 portable computer, and in turn to the accounting system.
The computer itself is lightweight and are worn on the arm or waist to provide total freedom of movement. It can provide visual feeback (ie error messages) and picking
instructions ot the user as well as audible error beeps and messages. The computer
does not need to be handled resulting in faster, more accurate picking.
Wearable computers are selected for warehouse use when:
- The operator is picking for extended periods of time;
- Items are picked at carton level ; or
- Many small items are picked from bins (for example: DVD/CD(s), cosmetics, jewellery
or liquor)
Wearable ring scanners are also available separately, and can be integrated into
any existing Bluetooth-enabled PDA or PC.
Wearable computers are available from LXE (HX2) and Motorola/Symbol (WT4000).
