Pick-to-Voice Solution
Radio Frequency Barcode Systems are pleased to announce the release of our new pick-to-voice order picking solution.
Using our hands-free, eyes-free mobile terminals, users can pick quickly and accurately at the case and item level
without referring to a hand-held terminal.
Voice Picking
Voice picking allows the WMS to “speak” instructions to picking staff and “listen” to
spoken confirmations with warehouse transactions validated in real-time. In a typical scenario, a warehouse
staff member is verbally prompted to retrieve items from a location. Pick-to-voice ensures accurate picking
by asking users to speak the last 4 digits of the product code they have picked. These digits are compared
against the virtual “pick slip” to ensure only correct items are dispatched.
System Overview
-
System users are equiped with a Voice Enabled HX2 unit from LXE connected to a headset.
-
Each user logs in to the system by speaking their name and the name of the application they want to run.
-
The Voice picking server allocates a pick slip to the user.
-
Users are prompted to visit a location in the warehouse (eg Computer: 'Go to location 1 3') and asked to speak the product code they find (eg Picker: 'Item 1 3 5 9'). The product
code is compared to products on the pick slip to ensure items are picked accurately.
-
The user speaks the quantity they are taking (eg Picker: 'Grab 5'). The computer checks that the correct number of items has been picked and alerts them if this is not the case (eg Computer: 'Only pick the required amount. Pick 3').
- If the user gets confused, they simply ask 'What do I say?' and the system repeats its last instruction.
-
The order is finalised and a belt-mounted printer produces a pallet label to attach to the goods.

Voice Technology: How it Compares
Paper Based Solutions allow errors to creep into your ERP system. When picking from paper, warehouse
staff can easily pick, ship and ‘confirm’ an incorrect item with the tick of a pen. Office staff must issue an
invoice by confirming pick slip details, another source of errors.
Scanning Systems reduce errors common in paper based systems by forcing each item to be scanned.
Picking software rejects products which do not match the pick slip and ensures that items are not “over picked”.
Pick slip data is automatically entered into the accounting system.
Voice Directed Systems offer the accuracy of scanning systems with the increased speed of voice data
entry. Picking is faster because there is no need to pick up and put down a mobile scanning terminal.
Your warehouse runs more efficiently and safely because users have their hands and eyes free at all times.
